Who should you call for an emergency roof leak?

Contact a roofing professional or roof-repair service that handles active leaks, storm openings and temporary weather protection. If there is fire, electrical arcing, structural collapse or another immediate threat to people, leave the affected area and contact emergency services first.

Tell the roofing provider whether water is entering now, which rooms are affected, and whether wind, hail, a fallen branch or missing roofing came before the leak. That information helps distinguish a current emergency from an older stain.

Is emergency tarping the same as a permanent repair?

No. A tarp or other temporary protection may limit additional water entry when the roof can be accessed safely, but it does not replace diagnosis and a durable repair. Weather, roof slope, materials and the size of the opening determine what is practical.

Ask the provider to separate the immediate protection from the permanent repair scope and price. Confirm what will be inspected afterward, including surrounding roofing, flashing, decking and any wet interior materials.
